Free-to-play and launch status explained

Operational objective

ANANTA is free-to-play, and that single word decides more about how you will experience the game than any combat system will. This page collects what has actually been said about acquisition, cosmetics and customisation, keeps it separate from what the genre merely implies, and is honest that the release date is still unannounced.

Decision route

  1. Start from the confirmed frame: the game is free to enter, and it is an open-world action game with a cast you switch between. Everything else about monetisation follows from how that cast is obtained.
  2. Keep acquisition and cosmetics in separate columns. A game can sell one, the other, both or neither, and mixing the two is how people end up angry at a system that was never announced.
  3. Read customisation as a design statement, not a price. When a studio emphasises how much of the character and the city you can shape, it is describing the fantasy it is selling — the payment model is a separate announcement.
  4. Treat the missing release date as information. A studio that has shown this much and still has not dated the game is telling you the schedule is not settled — plan around a window, not a day.
  5. Decide now what would make you spend, before a storefront exists to answer the question for you. Pre-launch is the only time you get to set that limit without a countdown running.

Failure review

!

The stated direction is that characters will not use gacha and monetisation will focus on skins and customisation. Still unannounced as of this page’s last check: the release date, exact character-unlock routes and timing, battle-pass or subscription structure, regional pricing, and what cosmetics will cost. These are developer plans, not a shipped store, so we will date and rewrite this page when one exists to inspect.

SEARCH QUESTIONS / 10

Questions players actually ask.

Direct answers, with the evidence level stated rather than implied.

01Is ANANTA free to play?+

Yes — free-to-play is confirmed, across PC, PlayStation 5, iOS and Android. What is not confirmed is anything about the store itself: pricing, currencies, battle passes and regional differences have all gone unannounced.

02How will ANANTA make money without character gacha?+

Developers have pointed to skins and customization as the monetization focus. That is a stated direction rather than an implemented store, so the practical advice is to confirm the actual shop rules on launch day before planning any spending.

03When will ANANTA be released?+

No release date has been announced. The project went from Project Mugen in 2023 to ANANTA in late 2024 and showed extensive gameplay in September 2025, but none of that establishes a launch window — and no date circulating today has an official source behind it.
