Character switching and persistent lives

Choose another character for their urban verbs and resume the routine their life continued while off-screen.

Character switching and persistent lives

Operational objective

Switching characters here is not swapping a loadout. Each one has a life that continued while you were elsewhere, and a set of things only they can do in the city. This page is about choosing the next character for the verbs you need, and then picking up the routine they were already in rather than fighting it.

Decision route

  1. Choose by verb, not by stat line. The useful question is what this character can do in the city that the current one cannot — access, standing, a place they are expected to be.
  2. Switch at a seam, not mid-problem. Changing character to escape a situation usually just hands the situation to someone with different tools and no context.
  3. Read where they already are before deciding where to go. A character resumed inside their own routine starts with position, cover and a reason to be there — three things a fast-travel arrival does not have.
  4. Let the routine finish when it is cheap to let it. The life running in the background is also the thing that makes their presence unremarkable — interrupting it every time costs the advantage you switched for.
  5. Keep one character parked where you will need one. Because their lives continue, leaving someone in a useful part of the city is a decision you can make an hour early.

Failure review

!

Unreleased: the roster size, how characters are obtained, whether switching is restricted by location or cooldown, how much of the off-screen life is actually simulated, and whether progression is shared. The habits above follow from switching and persistent lives being demonstrated; their costs are not published.

Questions players actually ask.

Direct answers, with the evidence level stated rather than implied.

01How do you switch characters in ANANTA?+

Through the in-game phone interface: open the phone, select another life, and the city camera transitions before you resume that character’s current routine. It is presented as changing who you are in the city, not as swapping a loadout.

02Do characters keep progressing while you are not playing them?+

Developers describe each character as continuing their own routine off-screen, so you resume where their life moved next rather than where you paused. Whether that produces mechanical progression or only narrative continuity has not been specified.

03Should I pick characters for combat or for city activities?+

For city activities, at least before launch. Combat values are unpublished and will change, but the urban verbs a character unlocks are documented now — and those are what decide which missions you can even approach.
